Marya is a completely self-taught artist who has been painting seriously for 15 years. At age 50, she decided to take up her childhood ambition of being an artist, and started to paint, experimenting with different media, but settling on acrylic paint.
Her first showings and sales were through the (now defunct) Zone Gallery, and by 1996 she had solo shows in both Kenora and Winnipeg. (Kenora Museum & Main Access Gallery.
